Job Purpose
Pikitup is recruiting 150 General Workers to assist with cleaning, waste collection, refuse bin delivery and general waste management operations across various depots in Johannesburg.
Successful candidates will perform duties such as street cleaning, litter picking, emptying refuse bins, loading waste and delivering replacement bins.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 10 qualification.
- At least 12 months’ proven experience in waste management as a General Worker.
- No criminal record.
- South African citizenship.
- Physical and mental fitness to perform the required duties.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or in a team.
- Knowledge of waste management tools, equipment and procedures.
Preference will be given to applicants residing within the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality.
Proof of residence or a letter confirming your residential address must be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform street sweeping, litter picking and general area cleaning.
- Clean developed areas, informal settlements and open spaces.
- Collect and load refuse bags onto waste trucks and vehicles.
- Empty refuse bins and collect waste from designated areas.
- Place filled refuse bags at designated collection points.
- Clear spills caused by broken refuse bags or overflowing waste.
- Assist with refuse bin deliveries and replacements.
- Load new and replacement bins from central stores.
- Inspect refuse bins for damage before delivery.
- Collect the equipment and materials needed for daily duties.
- Attend inspections of protective clothing and equipment.
- Report safety incidents, injuries and damaged equipment.
- Follow all safety and operational procedures.
- Wear the required protective clothing at all times.
- Complete daily assigned tasks and perform other reasonable duties.
