Position Purpose:
Provide protection over life, property, and the environment by responding to fire and emergency situations, conducting fire prevention duties, upkeep, and servicing fire equipment.

Position outputs:

1. Maintain Operational Readiness
2. Maintenance of fire equipment
3. Perform specialized procedures in dealing with emergencies and other incidents
4. Adherence to Governance and Risk Management in terms of legislation, policies and procedures
5. Adhere to Transnet policies, procedures, and guidelines
6. Caring for other people’s lives and/or assets without any favor and/or prejudice
7. Continuous assessment of own performance, professional interaction, and ethical dealings with stakeholders/ clients and co-workers
8. Perform fire patrols after hours
9. Inspection of dangerous goods/freight stationed in marshalling yards
10. Fire and equipment inspection of cargo sheds, warehouse,s and other structures
11. Fire protection duties or cargo, chemical tankers, and explosives
12. Commands incident site until arrival of higher authority
13. Handling of all HAZMAT and fire equipment
14. Man the fire control room
15. Man fire equipment on board tugs during vessel incidents
16. Standby and inspection of hot work sites
17. Inspection and testing of fire detection, fire suppression, and sprinkler systems
18. Grain elevator inspections( threat of dust explosions)
19. Hot work inspection on vessels, rail network, and depot construction sites
20. Perform any other functions as directed by a person with authority

Qualifications & Experience:

• Grade 12
• Fire Fighter 1 ( SAQA/ IFSAC- International Fire Safety
  Accreditation Congress) Accredited
• Hazmat Awareness (SAQA/IFSC accredited)
• Fire Fighter 2 ( SAQA/ IFSAC- Accredited)
• Hazmat Operational ( SAQA/IFSC accredited)
• First Aid ( Level3) or Basic Ambulance Assistant certificate
• Be in possession of a valid drivers license (minimum C1) with
  PrDP
  Work experience
• None (entry level)
